There are a huge range of options when choosing garden seats. There are fixed options as well as moveable chairs such as deckchairs and sun-loungers. The idea is for you to enjoy your outdoor retreat in a relaxed atmosphere taking in the sites, smells and sounds of your haven.

Fixed Options

This includes free-standing benches and benching around tree trunks. We found a lovely Teak Treeseat you may want to look at. However, as a cheap or even no-cost solution for your garden seats we would recommend siting fallen tree trunks. These can be fixed in placed, so they don't rock, cleaned off to offer a really rustic, traditional solution. More likely however, you will want to consider different types of benching. These are generally permanent placements, so consider their final position since it will be difficult to move them.

Look at the aspect and views afforded by these garden seats and consider the position of the sun. Do you want evening dappled light or early-morning sunshine? Benches are usually wooden furniture but can be made from metal including cast aluminium.
Ensure your wooden benches have been pre-treated with preservative. A good tip is to retreat the base of the legs as this is the first area where rot can set in. It is a good idea to put bricks under the legs if you are siting on a lawn. This will keep the wet away from the bottom of the legs and you will also be able to level the bench properly. Benching constructed around a tree trunk can offer a really ingenious option for garden seats and they can be purchased in kit form. Make sure you leave enough space between the tree trunk and the benching to allow for future growth.

Moveable Options

Hardwood high quality chairs and loungers are a must for every garden.  Move around to catch the sun or search out those shady corners on hot summer afternoons.

These range from full outdoor patio sets consisting of tables as well as chairs, to individual garden seats for relaxing in.
Deckchairs and sun-loungers are brought out when required. These types of garden seats can easily be moved around to follow the course of the sun, or alternatively you can find the shade when it gets too warm.

These garden seats need to be stored after use or at the end of the day, so make sure they are lightweight, easy to fold and carry.

Bean Bags - a fun alternative for Garden Seats
Another option for adding garden seats is a bean bag.  These come in a wide range of colours, are easy to move and are useful inside the house when not outside. bean bags make good garden seats

Although most garden seats can be left out all-year-round they are better protected through the worst of the winter weather . Obviously, seat cushions and awnings need additional protection, therefore,  you will need a dry storage space such as a shed or lean-to. Wooden garden seats accompany tables and offer outdoor dining options. These arrangements are usually left out during the warmer months but they need to be dismantled, cleaned and stored away in a weather-proof shed during the winter. You can purchase patio sets in plastic, metal or resin as well as wood. Whatever type you choose, you will need to protect your garden seats and tables with patio furniture covers between use. As well as protecting the furniture from the elements, it will help to keep them clear of bird droppings.

Garden seats are an integral part of your outdoor living-room. You will be able to spend many enjoyable hours sitting on you garden seats, listening to the moving water from your garden pond fountain, smelling the scent from the roses and honeysuckle climbing up your pergola, or simply looking at the colourful display of all the plants and shrubs arround you.
