The number of outdoor play toys are too numerous to list here so we have chosen a few examples that our own three boys have enjoyed over the years.

A selection of outdoor playtoys for you to choose from. A high quality sandpit which includes the all important cover and a climbing frame that incorpates a slide and you get to choose the colour.

Sandpits

Sandpits come in all shapes sizes and colours. Make sure you choose one that has a cover for when it is not in use; this keeps the rain off as well as keeping it clear of garden debris and bird droppings. In addition you do not want your sand pit to become a toilet for visiting cats and dogs! Kids love playing in sand pits and the feel and texture of the sand is fascinating for them. Sand pits are best placed on hard, flat level surfaces such as patios, terraces or decking. Many hours of pure enjoyment will be experienced especially by toddlers.

Slides

These activity based outdoor play toys are ideal for energetic youngsters. Look for slides made from moulded polyethylene. Steps should be chunky and have a non-slip surface to encourage safe climbing. A hand-rail is needed and this will keep fingers away from the steps and other childrens feet. The slide and the steps should be easy to assemble and not too heavy. You will want to move it around the lawn to prevent excessive wear on the grass.

Climbing frames

These outdoor play toys can vary in complexity and will become more challenging as your kids grow older.  Modular systems can be added to over the years. Metal climbing frames can incorporate slides, rope-ladders and platforms. Make sure that the exposed nuts and bolts come with caps to help avoid any injuries. The whole modular system must be secured to the ground using stakes.

Trampolines

Great fun can be had by all bouncing around on a trampoline. However, it is highly recommended that an adult is on hand to supervise these boisterous activities. Trampolines come in many different sizes so choose one that will easily fit in your garden. A trampoline safety enclosure would be a good investment to reduce the possibility of injury from being thrown off the trampoline. Also get a weather-proof cover for when the trampoline is not being used.

When the kids get too old for the basic outdoor play toys you can create a more adventurous play area with adult exercise areas.
